You may or may not wonder what the heck I’m talking about “building a list”. No, this is not the list your sponsor told you about which is “make a list of friends, family and everyone you know that can fog up a mirror”. Even though there is nothing wrong with that tactic and I know it still works today to get initial traction going that is not the “list” I’m referring to. Most of you already know what I’m talking about otherwise you wouldn’t click on List Building on this blog.
You know in the world of communication and sales there is a saying “The person who asks the questions is the one in control”. Well in the world of Internet and Online Marketing it is “He/She who has the list is in control”. As a matter of fact the bigger the list the more control. Did you know that Expedia is the largest online travel company in the world? Did you also know that when their prices are compared to other travel search engines they only come up with better results 6% of the time. THAT IS ONLY 6 TIMES OUT OF 100! You read that right my friend 
and that is no accident. So what makes Expedia the largest in its space when their results are less than average? It’s their list! They have the largest database of subscribers that opted in to receive their newsletter and promotions. Period.
You see if the biggest and baddest of them all are building their list the question is why aren’t you? More importantly WHY SHOULDN’T YOU? Like the late Jim Rohn said “If you knew you could do better, should you?” The answer is an absolute YES!
Now, is building your list online the only way to build your MLM? Of course not. For the sake of building fast and duplicating yourself I would still recommend using offline methods. But when you hit a brick wall, or start running out of resources, the list you’re building online should be supplemental to what it is you’re already doing. If you really get good then you will know how to marry the offline methods with online marketing to build true duplication with long lasting results.
Your list will be full of resources that are your new friends, whether they join you in your primary MLM or not! When I say friends I mean you have to provide value to them regardless of the outcome.
So why build your own list? Why not use someone’s system to build your list? The answer is simple, 100% control.
A few years ago I was subscribing to a system which was helping me generate leads. It had it’s own landing page, video driven marketing system and was already preloaded with email campaigns. All I had to do is pay my monthly fee and put more eye balls in front of that site. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Guess what? It was! The challenge with that system is that I did not have 100% control over the exposure, email campaigns and most importantly MY LIST. That list was mine and the leads generated were highly targeted and specific to me. The owners of that system decided to upgrade their servers so we as subscribers could have more value added to our system. Well guess what? The old data couldn't be recovered after the switch from old to new. My list of over 300 resources that were specific to me was gone. They had great intentions but things happen. Luckily it only took me a couple of months to generate that list. Now, yes I understand there are ways to back up your list or export it to a spreadsheet. But what if that option is not available? Bottom line is you have to have control over your list.
Your list is your life blood for your business. Lets say you’re hosting a webinar, or there is a major event going on with your company, or a new promotion you want to let everyone know about, well what’s easier than to let thousands or tens of thousand of your subscribers know that with a click of a mouse?
Your list are the people that opted in on YOUR page to hear more from you. And they will stay on the list as long as you’re providing value. The bigger your list the more value you can provide and we all heard of that famous saying, “The more people you serve the more you will be served”. Not everyone will sign up with you right away, but they will stay on your list as long as they’re benefiting from your content.
