Everyone at some point of joining our great business has a shell of some sort to break through. For the most part when we are new and being given specific instructions on how to launch our business we tend to fight against it. Whether it’s making that list, calling your friends and family, going to networking mixers and talking to stranger or asking closing questions. Same goes for seasoned professionals who just walked into the Internet Land of MLM. “Video marketing? Are you kidding me?! I can’t be infront of the camera! Allmy life I tried to avoid the darn thing and now I need to do videos, in my own house??? That’s crazy!” LOL “Article Marketing? I can’t write. What will I write about? What if people don’t like my topics, or my style of writing? Who is going to read them? I don’t have any real experience so why should people listen to me?”. All these fears come from uncertainty and you just want to remain in your shell, where it’s cozy and safe. The question is how safe is your safety zone? How warm is your cozy shell? Are you getting paid what you’re worth by staying there? Are you learning? Growing? Chicks break from their shells in order to grow, what makes you think people are any different?
There are many areas of our business that people feel very uncomfortable with at 1st. Do you know why I picked those two, Article Marketing and Video Marketing as an example? That’s exactly what I had a problem with. Although I already had years of field successful experience behind me I just couldn’t figure out what I was going to write about. Then I was overly conscious about my style of writing. Also, in regards to videos I used company videos for 3 years to generate over a thousand leads via Youtube because I was always afraid to post my personal videos. Once I broke out of my shell and started posting personal videos my views and leads went through the roof.
SO How Do Your Break Out Of Your Shell?
Let me provide some valuable tips from my own experience and working with hundreds of people personally on how to break out of your shell and start reaching the goals you’re designed to achieve.
1. Pin point exactly what you are uncomfortable with. You must recognize the fact that it is something you’d like to master but afraid of taking the 1st step. If it is something that you have absolutely no interest in and no desire to get better at then move on. Doesn’t matter what others tell you, if you don’t like it (not because you can’t yet but because you have no interest in it) then drop it. Find something you REALLY want to get better at.
2. Take DAILY actions despite your fear. If it’s videos, then just record them anyway. You don’t have to post them anywhere, just shoot and talk. Take a bunch of them. Become comfortable with the lens looking at you. If it’s blogging or articles then just start writing (as a side note, reserve this activity to down time hours when you’t cannot prospect) and find an accountability partner who can give you constructive criticism. Always be open to constructive criticism, it’s the best way to learn and move forward.
3. Studies show that in order to form a habit a person has to do something for 21 straight days. So make sure you don’t fall back into your shell for at least 21 days. Be firm with this rule.
4. Track your activity and progress. Get a planner and/or journal. Develop a daily method of operation that WILL include your “out of the shell” activities.
5. Last but not least “Do the things you fear most and the death of fear is certain” I’ve heard this phrase from Brian Tracy many years ago and decided to live by it. Print it out and put it on the side of your screen if you have to get through your day.
There are plenty of resources on the web to help you with any skill you want to master. Whether it’s recruiting, prospecting, phone skills, rapport building with strangers, article marketing, Facebook marketing, Videos, etc. My suggestion is to tackle one thing at a time. Take 30 days straight (yes, it’s more than 21 days
) to form that habit and become better than you were before and then move on to your other task. The best marketers in our profession master one or two skills really well to make 5 or 6 figures a month. There are very successful marketers who don’t know how to write well and have no desire of learning but they know how to close 8 out of 10 people they talk to on the phone. There are people who can write great articles and emails to sponsor 30 people a month every month but have never recorded a video of themselves nor do they have the desire to do that. Find what you want to get better at, and attack your fear with passion on daily basis and before you know it you won’t even see the shell you left behind
