This is one of my favorite subjects to talk about and train on. When I finally understood the concept and the reason behind “sponsor up” back in 2006 my business hasn’t been the same since. Sponsoring professionals and people that are too busy to do anything else has got to be one of the funnest and lucrative part of the business. While many may be intimidated to contact professionals and list them as the “chicken list” I actually find it easier and faster to recruit someone of higher caliber professionally than the next Joe. No offense to all the Joes out there but I’d like to build my business faster and with less hesitation when I prospect. What I want to do in this article is illustrate to you how to sponsor professionals and people who are just too busy to look at your MLM opportunity. Reality is, your Network Marketing business will grow faster and smoother when you bring in quality, professional and self starting distributors.
Where To Find Professionals and Busy People as Prospects?
Before you even go out and prospect in the cold market for professionals I’d suggest going back to your list of prospects (if you still have it) and look at it. See who on that list is someone that is busy, successful, and influential. You may have heard this before from your upline but have you actually done it? So aside from your own list of people you already know here is a brief list of places where to find these action oriented MLM prospects:
1. Ask for referrals. Asking people you already know for referrals is a great way to find professionals and busy people. Just ask “Who do you know that’s [fill in the blank]. Real estate professionals, Insurance brokers, Lawyers, Accountants, Doctors, Account Executives, Business owners, mortgage brokers, pastors, (or other religious leaders) you get the point.
2. Chamber of commerce. Who are the members of Chamber usually? People that are busy and always looking for more business. These are your professionals.
3. Meetup events. If you aren’t registered at Meetup.com then you should do that ASAP. Attend local events. Make it a habit to attend at least 2 per month. Great place to meet professionals.
4. Social Media groups. Whether you’re on Facebook or Linkedin find groups in the field of professionals you’re looking for. Join the group and connect with others.
5. Google desired profession. Yes, I’m using Google as a verb here
. When you’re looking up a certain profession always be sure to indicate a specific area. Example; “Real Estate agents in Phoenix AZ”. This is something I often do and get a ton of results. I personally click on Images so I know who I’ll be calling. You need to be good on the phones to do this if you’re prospecting cold. Or simply get a script book from an industry leader. I know that Todd Falcone is a master when it comes to recruiting professionals so I used his Script Book until I didn’t need one. Also, you may want to check out his exclusive training on sponsoring professionals and leader into your organization Here.
6. Open Houses. Get in your car on the weekend for an hour or so and attend a few open houses. You’ll normally find not only the Real Estate professional that’s hosting the open house but also Attorneys, Loan Officer and/or Investors.
What Do You Say To Them and How Do You Sponsor Busy Professionals?
The actuall prospecting isn’t that much different when it comes to recruiting professionals. There might be a few things you might need to mention to get their attention but overall the process is the same. Your posture should definitely be strong. You can’t come off wimpy asking them for “their opinion” on your business. I know some industry trainers use that approach but if it’s YOUR business and you DECIDED that you will build it regardless of who will join you then why the heck would you even care for someone’s opinion?! Stiffen up your spine and lets get to work! Here are a few prospecting lines that may or may not be familiar but your NEED to implement them when recruiting professionals for your MLM business. They work! “Are you open to generating an additional income on top of what you’re doing?” “Do you keep your income options open above and beyond from what you’re currently doing?” “I know you’re busy with your profession, but let me ask you something, do you keep your income options open without jeopardizing what you’re currently doing?” “Let me ask you something, in this new economy do you keep your options open for a new business?” “If there was a leadership position available in your market with a company that’s expanding while everyone else is downsizing would you consider it?” “I know you’re doing very well with your business/job/career, but let me ask you something…between you and me, do you have time freedom?”
Also, when you’re prospecting professionals that are used to making a lot of money you can’t be talking about part time income of $1k a month or $2k a month. These people are doers. These are the A type personality for the most part so you need to be talking a 5 figure monthly income with them. Then you’re speaking their language. If you’re talking to a struggling realtor then you may talk about making $2,000 – $4 ,000 a month. Use your common sense based on your rapport with that individual what amount to use.
How do you get them to take action? Use other people’s success stories especially those that come from the same field as your prospect. If you’re prospecting an accountant and you have a success story in your company of another accountant say something like “I know this guy is good, but based on what I learned about you, you can do much better then him/her and much faster too. So how fast do you want to build this thing?” Get them to think AS IF they were already on your team. Stop asking them to join you and ask them what they want out of this.
Will every busy professional you talk to join you? Absolutely not. But more will compared to the same amount of other people you prospect. If they are too cool for school, let them go! Keep your posture and maintain the relationship. Take the higher road. Never argue with them. Never ever ever tell them why they would be great at this or why they NEED this. Professionals sort, amateurs sell.
To your success,
Raphael Mavi
