MLM Training: Old School vs. New School – Which One Is Better?

Old School vs. New School MLM

This topic seems very controversial yet it raises a lot of valid questions. With more and more MLM professionals establishing their presence online it doesn’t mean they are now using “New School” methods. What’s your preferred method of building your business? How are  you currently building your business? Did you have to switch from one to another?

I, personally, get asked all the time “Raphael, are you building your business online or offline?” My answer is always the same “Both”. As a professional marketer you need to understand that when you choose only one method of marketing you leave LOTS of money on the table by completely ignoring the other choice.

The image in this post represents the typical explanation of the difference. It’s clear that whoever drew this up is an online marketer. What most Network Marketing professionals fail to understand is that the concept of Online and Offline Marketing is the same. Did I just say that? YES! It all comes down to VALUE you bring to your prospect and/or customer.
Whether  you prospect someone at the grocery store or you attracted a hot laser targeted lead via capture page or blog you still offered VALUE to that person in order to receive permission to “tell them more” or get their information.

The biggest difference between Online Marketing with MLM and Offline old tactics is; New School = Marketing, Old School = Selling. Are you still selling with Online Marketing? Absolutely! But you’re selling to the right audience, an audience that you attracted by marketing the right value. This audience is actually ready, willing and able to buy and pursue the destiny of an entrepreneur unlike with a dead beat list of friends and family  that most new Network Marketers attack like Hitler did Poland. How many great successful MLM reps do you know that retired or got rich in MLM because their cousin got in, or their sibling or a negative brother in law? Exactly! Am I saying don’t contact your warm list? Of course not.  You should contact your warm list 1st, tactfully and professionally. Ask them to test your product or service before you ask them to join your business. Don’t chase them. By not contacting your warm list you’re subconsciously reserving a seat for failure in the back of your mind because you don’t want to hear the “I told you so” bull crap. Just DO NOT rely on your warm list. Oh yeah, the 3 foot rule…well I’ve never done it and you can’t pay me enough to do it. Should you still prospect cold market professionals? Yes. My favorite niche is Real Estate so I prospect Realtors all the time.

To the average person, the idea of contacting a stranger by handing out a business card sounds easier than building a capture page. Or calling their family member 17 times to get them to watch a video presentation over learning the concepts of Attraction Marketing. What usually sounds easy and simple tends to duplicate faster. That is the truth. But it may not always bring the quality you’re looking for in your results.

So what’s better, New School of marketing or Old School? Either one on it’s own will not stand the test of time. Where eye balls go is where the money goes. So if you’re not actively building your business on Facebook or haven’t established your own presence online then you’re simply leaving LOTS of money on the table. If you’re all online and high tech trying to figure out how to figure out what needs to be figured out and haven’t mastered the skills of communication, rapport building and basic fundamentals of prospecting then you’re not building a long term business…you’ve simply created another JOB for yourself. Unless that’s you wanted you need to start doing what the Master Marketers do. Master Marketers, the people  you look up to have mastered the skill of bridging the gap between New School and Old School. They’ve learned how to generate massive amounts of leads and business in general and then take it and duplicate it offline. They learned how to handle objections via phone. They know how to generate 50-100 targeted leads a day by applying the principles of Attraction Marketing. If you want to create a long lasting, sustainable and duplicable business then you MUST embrace the best of both worlds. Some of the skills you need to learn to be GREAT are;

1. How to build rapport
2. How to build your list (online and offline) Offline: Know what KIND of people to put on that list
3. How to pique interest
4. How to close
5. How to use Attraction Marketing
6.How to convert leads to sales, converting sales to builders, converting builders to leaders
7.How to drive traffic to your site, blog, or capture page

Nothing will replace the value of live events, building genuine relationships and the feeling of looking someone in the eyes when you’re building leaders. Also, nothing can come close to having an eager audience of millions of people wanting a better future for themselves and they are looking for the right vehicle and leadership online.
