8 Secret Time-Wasters and How To Overcome Them

With the way marketing and advertising is done today it’s easy to get distracted and at the end of the day you realize that you’ve wasted a lot of time on tasks you had no intentions on doing. Being focused on planned tasks is one thing but wasting time on various activities throughout the day might set you back even further then where you started.

“The most common time-waster is procrastination, people who are masters of time organization wear success blinders. They do not look to the left or the right.” – Paul J. Meyer.

I’m going to keep this blog post very short and get right to the point. Remember, no one knows the time wasters in your day or life better than you do. So the #1 rule is to be honest with your self. For each and every one of us there are a lot of time wasters from one day to the next but since I want to keep this short I picked the most common 8 time-wasters. This is something that we all fall victim to every now and then.

Time-Wasters:

- Talking too long on the phone (personal or business)
- Procrastinating from doing what you know you MUST do
- Checking email & social media updates on your smart phone as they come in
- Chatting on Facebook when it’s prospecting time
- Focusing on small and less important things that can be done during “down time” aka after hours
- Waiting till late in the day to do the important tasks
- Getting ready to get ready. Keep “preparing” to avoid the actual activities
- Failing to say no to unrelated tasks

How To Avoid Time Wasters:

- If expecting a call or making a call schedule an END time when possible.
- Start eliminating the toughest tasks 1st from your to-do list for the day
- Turn off data services on your smart phone and schedule to check email and Social Media updates 2 or 3 times a day
- If you chat on Facebook during productive hours be sure it’s prospecting or rapport building chatting.
-  Outsource micro tasks or take care of them during down time
- Make a short daily to-do list and say no to tasks not on that list
- Set a time limit for non-task-related Internet browsing
- Set deadlines and alarms for you to complete tasks

I hope this was helpful and remember, the worst lie we tell is the one we tell ourselves. So lets all be honest with ourselves and stop looking for excused on why didn’t make that extra phone call or skipped an important tasks on our task-list.

To you success,

Raphael Mavi
