Your upline tells you to set your goals, work on your “why”. The personal development experts tell you how important it is to have goals, written goals. You sit down before New Year’s eve to write down your goals with your spouse, your kids or even by yourself for the following year. All this is important to practice and exercise but the question is what results have you gotten from doing this? You have to be really honest with yourself on this question. Most people can set goals properly, but only few know how to achieve them. Here are some quick tips on how you can become a goal getter than just a goal setter.
1. Have your Top 5 goals written clearly with you at all times. Laminate the paper if you have to. Look at your goals at least twice a day. Once in the morning is a must, it’s a reminder why you will do the things necessary that day.
2. Break down each goal into smaller goals as stepping stones. If it’s yearly goal, break it down to the month, week and day what you will need to do to achieve that goal. Have a checklist for the daily activities that will bring you closer to your goal. At the end of the day check off the tasks you accomplished.
3. Have a DAILY action plan for ALL your goals. Make a schedule, live by that schedule, win with that schedule to achieve your goals.
4. Find an accountability partner to share goals with. Most people fail in life as adults because after High School or College they no longer have anyone holding them accountable like they did with teachers and professors. Having an accountability partner is very important. Have accountability calls either on weekly or daily basis to track results.
5. Experience your goals. If your goal is to attain something materialistic then experience it prior to achieving it. Car, home, watch, etc. Go to the dealership to sit in the car of your dreams. Drive by an area where you want that house to be in. Go to the store and try on that watch. You get the picture.
6. Act as if… . Attitude comes before the payday. Act as if you already achieve that goal. Develop the posture of a goal getter, a winner… an accomplished person. May be hard but not impossible. Practice until you get it done.
7. Reward yourself for stepping stones. Once you break down your goals into smaller stepping stones, your daily and weekly activities you should find a way to reward yourself for completing that task.
From reading over 40 books and ebooks on Goal Setting and Goal Achievement I have never seen a better breakdown on how to achieve your goals than the audio series by Darren Hardy. If you haven’t read the book or heard it on audio then I highly recommend it. This program is bound to be a classic “How To” program without a doubt. Great addition to your library and a phenomenal reference point.
