Staying focused means not losing sight of your goal at all times. You see most people can tell you what they want and perhaps even tell you how they plan to get what they want but in reality less than 5% of those same people can maintain their focus on the task at hand in order to GET what they want. June of this year, my wife and I attended a personal development program, in Palm Springs, CA, that runs for over 5 days. It's a program that our company puts together once a year and it's led by the industry's expert, Marc Accetta. The name of this program is Journey. Without getting into much detail I will say this, after attending numerous workshops, boot camps and spending tens of thousands of dollars with icons like Anthony Robbins, T. Harv Eker and others…I have never seen a program like this one! I'm glad my wife joined me through this "journey" at Journey because it has absolutely transformed our lives. Again, without going into detail two of MANY skills that we learned was the power of focus and listening. Most of us think we know how to listen, but I want you to really pay attention to your listening ability the next time you're in a 1-on-1 conversation. Will you catch yourself thinking of the next thing you will want to say while other person is talking or will you LISTEN?
Focusing on the matter at hand is what makes you better at what you're doing. Avoiding distraction is not an easy skill, but the key word is "skill". That means it's learned, just like reading, writing or riding a bike. Whether you're focusing on your job, a project, your kids, marriage or winning a game in a particular sport, you and I both know it's important to stay focused. The question is how many of us actually do it without getting distracted by either setbacks, noise or a phone call. The power of focus is an interesting thing. Take sun light for example. You can light up the world with sun light. You can get a tan under the sun. If you focus that same sun light (ray) through a lens you can burn an ant AND if you really focus that same light under proper technology you can create a laser beam that can cut through steel! That is the power of focus. Your brain works the same way. Stay focused on whatever you're doing and I promise you'll get better results.
